Career Progression and Salary Growth Over Five Years
How Much Has Your Salary Increased Over Five Years?
Over the last five years, many have seen significant growth in their careers and incomes. Here are some personal experiences that illustrate this journey and the impact of career choices on financial stability.
Java Developer's Salary Journey
I graduated with a BCA degree in 2021 and initially joined a training institute in Noida to clear my Java concepts. After just six months, I received three job offers: PHP Developer, Dot Net Developer, and Java Developer. Naturally, I chose the opportunity as a Java Developer.
My journey began with a monthly internship salary of INR 15,000. After six months, my salary increased to INR 25,000. Throughout 2022, I continued to earn INR 25,000 monthly, and as of now, my current salary has grown to INR 42,000 per month.
This isn't a five-year timeline, but considering my overall experience, I felt it was worth sharing to inspire others. If you're interested, feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn.
Furthermore, this year I received the Versatile Excellence Award, showcasing my success and dedication to the field.
A Mechanical Engineer's Income Evolution
After completing my B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, I started my career as a Foundry Supervisor. My take-home salary in 2016 was INR 7,000. Throughout the years, I changed a few companies and my take-home salary increased to INR 30,000. This reflects a steady career progression and financial stability in my chosen path.
From Freelancing to Government Job
In 2017, I graduated and was preparing for government jobs. However, in the meantime, I was freelancing offline in Shamla Hills, Bhopal, MP. My graduation was in 2017 and I turned down several college campus placements, all offering about INR 15,000 to INR 20,000 monthly.
Freelancing work was a mix of typing and other computer tasks. I could earn up to INR 300 daily and sometimes as low as INR 50. However, during this period, I was also teaching at a computer institute and learning office work, so I did not take any monetary compensation. Daily computer shop owners would call me for typing work in Hindi and English.
My financial situation began to change in July 2018 when I appeared for a government exam. I cracked the exam, and in July 2019, I officially joined the service with a monthly salary of approximately INR 20,000. By 2023, my salary had risen to around INR 27,000.
Starting from Tuitions to Government Roles
Since graduating with an adequate degree in 2017 without a placement, I began taking private tuitions. My first student was in Class 4, and I earned INR 1,000 per month starting from May 2017. With more students over time, I managed to earn approximately INR 6,400 per month teaching 5 hours daily. This continued until I joined Indian Railways as a Junior Engineer in 2020 with a salary of INR 41,000 per month.
As of now, I'm working for the Income Tax Department, earning a salary of INR 65,000 per month. This represents a substantial increase in my income since starting out both in terms of numbers and in the work that I do.
