Embracing the Year Ahead: Acceptance, Growth, and Family

As we step into 2019, many of us are reflecting on our personal goals and aspirations. For many, the journey of self-discovery and personal growth is not an easy one, but it is essential. This article delves into how three individuals have framed their hopes and plans for the upcoming year using the keywords acceptance, growth, and family.

Acceptance

“Acceptance” stands as a powerful one-word vision for 2019. Not everyone can easily embrace diversity and differences, but this year, it's about opening our hearts and minds to see the beauty and value in everyone, regardless of their background or beliefs. This mindset is not just about broadening our social circle but also accepting the simple fact that life is not always as we wish it to be.

Personal Reflection:

I want to be able to accept everybody and anybody as a friend, no matter what race, gender, religion, or ethnic group they belong to. Accepting that I won't always win, and I won't always get what I want is a crucial part of this journey. I aim to accept the challenges of following Christ, even if it means losing everything. I want to accept who I am as a person, embracing my quirks and imperfections.

Through these deliberate acts of acceptance, one gains clarity, resilience, and a better understanding of oneself and the world.

Growth

Transforming one's life through personal growth is a common theme in the New Year. Many have spent their lives searching for identity and purpose, often through the lens of constant comparison and societal pressures. This year marks a shift towards self-acceptance and a commitment to creating positive change in the world.

Personal Reflection:

My life has been a journey of self-discovery, but finally, I am beginning to accept myself for who I am and what makes my life meaningful. I want to grow as a man and find meaning in improving the world by being a creator rather than just a consumer. The intention is to add to the world positively, for me, for those around me, and for those to come.

This growth involves not only self-improvement but also contributing to larger societal goals, which is a refreshing shift from the previous cycle of self-doubt and negativity.

Family

For some, 2019 is about prioritizing family. This word can mean different things to different people, but ultimately, it reflects a profound need for stability and support. While it may seem selfish to some, focusing on family is a strategic choice for personal rejuvenation.

Personal Reflection:

I think ‘Family’ is my one-word vision statement for 2019, though some might find it selfish. Perhaps, but family is what I need right now. Since I am not a warrior capable of saving the whole world, I must start with saving myself. Personal well-being is crucial before one can effectively help others.

By prioritizing family, one not only nurtures relationships but also creates a foundation from which to tackle personal and global challenges with renewed energy and optimism.

Cathartic Necessity

For those facing significant health challenges, 2019 may require some cathartic and purging experiences. The keyword "Cathartic" encapsulates the desire for healing and renewal, which is particularly important for those dealing with personal health battles.

Personal Reflection:

... I have to have another colonoscopy in September 2019—I just had one—the doctor must find a better laxative for me. If we're successful, I'll have a five-year reprieve. If I were still a believer, I’d guess I’d be praying!

This reflection underscores the need for physical and emotional healing, often intertwined with hope and faith.

2019 is a year of transformation and resilience. Whether it's finding acceptance, striving for growth, prioritizing family, or seeking catharsis, these one-word visions serve as powerful motivators for personal and collective growth. As we embrace the challenges ahead, may we find the strength and courage to persist.
