Reflections and Resolutions: A New Year’s Perspective
Reflections and Resolutions: A New Year’s Perspective
It's hard to believe but only two days remain in 2020, a year that has been both challenging and rewarding. As I reflect on the achievements and setbacks of this year, it's the perfect time to ponder and set new goals for the upcoming year.
Despite many unfinished tasks and ambitions, I remain grateful for the progress I've made. In this article, I'll share some highlights from 2020, insights into my personal growth, and offer some resolution ideas for the new year.
2020 Achievements
Investment Milestone: Crossing 1L in equity shares investment - a significant achievement that exceeded my initial assumptions. YouTube Success: Managed to publish 12 videos on YouTube, aiming to reach 50 by the end of 2020. Confidence in delivering more consistent content is high for the coming year. Reading Habit: Developing the habit of reading 10 pages daily. Improved Physical and Mental Health: Focusing more on self-care activities than in previous years. Family Time: Spending quality time with family, thanks to the unexpected break provided by the pandemic. Job Satisfaction: Reflecting positively on securing employment, an achievement that brought a sense of stability and security. While not everything has been completed as planned, I take heart from the progress and learnings gained. Some goals may not be achieved this year, but the mere thought of having thought of them warrants gratitude.
Resolutions for the New Year
For me, setting yearly resolutions isn't confined to the New Year. Some principles I strive to follow irrespective of the time of the year include:
1. Mindful Internet Engagement
Attempting to minimize arguments with random strangers online and in person. Anger and disputes often arise due to miscommunication and insufficient understanding. By exercising patience and empathy, I aim to have more constructive interactions.
2. Embracing Imperfection
Addressing my tendency to be a perfectionist. Setting realistic goals and being satisfied with progress rather than striving for flawless perfection.
3. Financial Responsibility
Striking a balance between saving and spending. Recognizing that it's okay to be broke if it means I can pursue my passions without compromising on basic needs.
4. Discretion in Serious Situations
Using appropriate discretion when speaking in sensitive or serious contexts. Communicating thoughtfully and thoughtlessly can make a significant difference in how others perceive me and the outcome of a situation.
5. Saying “No” More Often
Learning to decline offers without hesitation. This paves the way for greater availability to focus on personal responsibilities and professional commitments.
6. Accepting Flaws
Accepting my imperfections and stopping my constant grammatical corrections (a grammar Nazi). It's essential to value personal integrity while also being kind to myself.
7. Respecting Others
Staying attuned to others' feelings and being less quick to assume negative intentions. Treating others with respect and empathy fosters stronger and more fulfilling relationships.
These are just a few of the goals I aim to focus on and implement in the new year. While some might seem contradictory, they all contribute to a balanced and fulfilling life. Here's to a new decade with lots of love and strength for all of us.
