Introduction

Life is a journey filled with choices and experiences that shape who we become. Over the years, I've journeyed through several professions, each one leading me closer to my ideal career. Today, I would like to reflect on my journey and share with you my choices and the reasons behind them.

From Dreams to Reality

My life began with a dream of becoming a pharmacist. However, my academic path took an unexpected turn. In high school, I struggled with organic chemistry, which prevented me from achieving my initial goal. Instead, I pursued a career in electronics within the Air Force. This experience led me to major in Electrical Engineering, but a programming course turned out to be my turning point. The enjoyment I experienced ultimately led me to change my major to Computer Science.

Exploring a Different Path

While I deeply enjoyed my career in technical management, I occasionally entertained other passions. For instance, I once thought about becoming a pilot, particularly a fighter pilot. However, at the age of 54, the medical requirements would have made this dream unfeasible. Instead, I now fly cargo planes, a role that, while respectful, lacks the excitement and challenge that fighter pilot careers offer. Similarly, the idea of flying passenger planes didn't appeal to me after a fighter pilot career.

Despite these inclinations, I found a more fulfilling pursuit in software development. The joy of creating software that solves problems for people is immense, and I would continue to work in this field if given the opportunity. However, my current dream involves a dual role as a store supervisor and a parent, ensuring that my future children are surrounded by supportive adults.

From Software Developer to Author and Coach

Another career that captivated me is that of a writer of quotes and short stories. The act of creation, of bringing words to life, is a deeply satisfying experience. It's a passion that I would love to explore in my free time or as a full-time pursuit.

Alternatively, I would consider a role as a full-time coach. The idea of utilizing my skills and experience to help others and create fulfillment is compelling. Coaching allows me to make a positive impact on the lives of others, a dream that I believe aligns with my values and aspirations.

Supporting and Exposing Charities

I have close ties with the world of charity and non-profits, particularly those that focus on children's health. For instance, my son had a battle with lymphoma, and the experience led me to another dream: working with children in a volunteer capacity or with charitable foundations like St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. My son's victory over cancer has given me a renewed sense of purpose, and I would love to spend my remaining years supporting children and charitable causes that genuinely make a difference.

However, along with supporting causes, I would also like to expose those that misuse charitable funds. The idea of organizations that are primarily focused on self-promotion and fundraising rather than patient care is disheartening. It's important to me that I use my voice and skills to ensure that donations are used effectively and that the foundation of these charities is transparent. Exposing such organizations is a way to ensure that charitable donations are truly making a difference.

In conclusion, my journey has been marked by a series of choices, each leading me closer to my ideal career. Whether it's software development, coaching, writing, or supporting charitable causes, I believe that life is about finding a fulfilling path that aligns with my passions and values.
