Why Do I Need Makeup to Feel Pretty?
Why Do I Need Makeup to Feel Pretty?
According to society, most women don’t really need makeup to feel pretty. Men, including myself, often find women more appealing without excess makeup or when they’re dressed to impress. However, for many, society's relentless promotion of makeup and beauty tricks them into believing that beauty and makeup are synonymous.
Only those who are secure and confident, fully aware of their features and flaws, and have been taught by people close to them to appreciate their natural beauty, can resist this notion. For the rest, the presence of significant makeup often signifies a need for high maintenance and low self-esteem, which can attract less sincere or shallow individuals. Less makeup makes you appear more down-to-earth, more approachable, and in need of less attention.
While some professions may require a more "glammed-up" appearance, it’s important to use makeup solely for your own satisfaction, not for the approval of others. Our culture promotes the idea that most young people are prettier without makeup, while older individuals hope to still look good with it.
The Role of Society and Media
The media, commercial ads, magazines, and other forms of advertising play a major role in planting the idea that makeup is essential for beauty. This can be particularly disheartening, especially during adolescence when peer judgments are harsh.
At age 22, I still struggle with my appearance from time to time. It can be discouraging to see many people around me who have gone through cosmetic procedures to achieve the perfect look. However, I want to reassure you that these feelings will pass. Ageing can change how you perceive these insecurities, and you may even wonder who you were so judgmental about in the future. It’s important to focus on self-love and self-compassion. Loving yourself is a lifelong journey, and it’s essential to care for yourself and build that same confidence and support that you might offer to others.
Beyond the Need for Makeup: Embracing Authentic Beauty
It's not just makeup that defines beauty. True beauty comes from within. It’s about accepting and embracing your natural features, flaws, and imperfections. People who truly love themselves can look beautiful without makeup. They let their natural features speak to their unique charm.
Focus on building a self-confidence that isn’t dependent on external validation. Develop hobbies that make you happy, engage in activities that boost your self-esteem, and surround yourself with positive, supportive people. When you feel confident, you exude beauty without the need for additional makeup or external validation.
